I just got a statement in the door today going back to my student days, from AIB stating I've a small balance.
Anyhow, I want to close the account..is this easily done?
Can I just go in and close it off in person? What do I need to bring?
Thanks
Sorry - missed the bit about the balance. You should ask them to send you a cheque for the balance once closed. Otherwise the recently introduced current account switching guidelines (see the ) should, if necessary, help to facilitate closing this and have the balance transferred to another account. Why would they make life difficult for you? If they do make it clear to them that it's your money and that they can take a hike!
Don't know long it's been since you left college but you'll probably have to prove who you are/where you live, due to the money laundering laws, before you get the money.
I've a BoI current account, credit card and mortgage. They wrote to my home (which they valued) and effectively said, we don't know who you are or where you live so can you please visit us with ID & a couple of bills!!
I've never had any trouble about closing accounts. Had loads of them. Just go in and tell them you want to close it and give you your money.
Bring proof of ID, obviously.
