how to block pop up boxes

Getting some pop up boxes on some sites which I would not consider unsafe and it is just annoying me. I have checked my internet options and pop ups are blocked, done scan with microsfort security essentials and malware anti malware and nothing showing up. Any suggestions welcome.

Have you tried Adblock+ it's available for different browsers. e.g.
