Hi Guys I was just wondering, how you go out becoming a travel agent? What qualification you need, etc.? Do you have to know someone in the business?

The ITAA website might have some useful info.

If you haven't worked in the industry before and are looking to set up on a self employed basis then it might make sense to work for somebody else first to gain some experience.

Thanks Clubman I looked into the itaa website alright couldn't really find anything re: what I am interested in will have another look though

Don't know if this is what your looking for but Galileo Ireland do training courses on their booking system which about 80% of travel agents use.

You can also do a full and part time course in some colleges.

The Commission for Aviation Regulation deals with the bonding, regulation and registration of travel agents, while the ITAA is more a representative organisation. See [broken link removed]

Application Forms & Fees

The Commission for Aviation Regulation is responsible for the licensing of tour operators and travel agents under the Transport (Tour Operators and Travel Agents) Act, 1982, as amended by the Package Holidays and Travel Trade Act, 1995. Under this legislation, a person must hold a licence in order to operate as either a travel agent, or tour operator. In general terms, the two requirements that must be satisfied in order to obtain a licence relate to the financial standing of the intended tour operator or travel agent, as well as fitness and suitability to carry out either of these activities.
