How to Avoid Kill/Johnstown?

I got caught again this morning on the N7 a mile before Naas,the building contractor decided that one lane would be grand for all the traffic 11 days before Christmas!Anyhow this is the 2nd time I've got held up here,I heard on the Radio there's a way to get around this via Sallins.The AA route planner doesn't make sense as it askes you to Detour at Newbridge.Anyone who knows the area can tell me how to get there and then back onto the motorway missing Kill and Johnstown.I'm heading towards Santry so need to get on the M50

When I used to live down in Sallins, I crafted a route down through Ardclough. It involved going through Newcastle and, rather than turning down for Celbridge (travelling Dublin to Sallins) stay on the road and take the next left up by the UCD farm. I'll need to find a map to remind myself of the route but there was zero traffic and I could get from Citywest to Sallins in 25 mins flat.
