How often to service a Toyota Yaris?

Hi,
I'm just wondering if anybody can help me, I bought a 00 Yaris in may.
Since then i've clocked up 8000 miles! Some people are telling me that once a year is sufficient while others tell me that I should get it serviced after about 5000 miles.
I am wary about asking at a garage as i'm afraid they'll realise I know very little about cars and rip me off!
Also I checked the manual, apparantly there is supposed to be a separate service manual which I did not get with the car.
All help greatly appreciated!

Toyota advise servicing your car every 9000MLS or at least once a year.
See [broken link removed] , though it only covers the first 5 years / 45kmls... i guess same rule applies afterwards...
