could someone please advise what should an unmarried man living with partner and 2 kids take home in wages if he works 39 hours at 11 euro ph gross + 5 hours overtime at 16.50 ph gross.thanks for your help

Basic Pay 11.00 x 39 = 429.00
Overtime pay 16.50 x 5 = 82.50
Gross pay = €511.50
Weekly Tax = 0.00
Weekly PRSI = 15.38
Weekly Health Contrib = 17.06
Income Levy = 8.56
Net pay = €470.50

I calculate different values, especially for PAYE:

Code:
Gross pay €511.50 (as above)
PAYE €31.92
PRSI €15.37 (as above)
Health levy €20.46 (if you have a full medical card you wouldn't pay this)
Income levy [U] €10.23 [/U](as above- no liability if you have a full medical card)
Net pay €433.52 (or €464.21 if exempt from levies)

Sorry I used this annualised calculator for the first time but never checked the figures - they now seem wrong - http://www.deloitte.ie/tc/

(and I didn't select correct options either having checked again!!)

So 'Chopper' , as you can see above , that living with partner and 2 kids makes no difference from a tax point of view , and you are been treated as a single person regardless .

However , from a Social Welfare point of view , you will be treated as a family . ( on the basis that one of kids is yours )

So go apply for medical card immediately , and indeed , you may also be entitled to a FIS ( family income supplement ) as well .

thanks very much for everyones help and advice the reason i asked the question was because from the details i gave origanally i took home just 394 euro,a friend said it could be 'emergency tax' because i only started the job a few weeks ago(but had been working full time for 14 tears previously)i dont understand this either but just needed an idea before i question my employer thanks again

Did you get a P45 from your previous employer. You need to give this to your new employer so that a new tax cert can be issued.
