How much for lawnmower service?

How much do you pay to have your lawnmower serviced. Mine is coming in at €85. Petrol mower. I get it serviced every 3 years.

I see that Woodies and Screwfix have new petrol mowers for sale for circa €200.

I think that I would like to be paying somewhat less than €85 or maybe this is the normal rate?

They are so cheap and reliable these days I’d suggest you watch a few YouTube videos and service them yourself or don’t bother service it all and run it until it dies. The body or drive is more likely to fail long before the engine.

That's less than €30 per annum, i'd stick with whoever is doing that for you and don't tell too many about it.

Last house I bought the garden was in really a poor state, so I bought a cheap petrol mower to take the abuse, it lasted 18 years with zero maintenance, but that was likely helped by only having to deal with less than 150sqm.

Thanks for the responses. I had it serviced about 3 years ago. Considering that it is only used during the summer months I thought that I might get a bit longer between services.

Previous to this I had a Mountfield that lasted over 30 years with about two services.

1. I service our lawnmower. I learnt from Youtube and use some common sense.
2. Lawnmower with a box for collecting grass is a must.
3. I bought a 2nd hand aluminium body lawnmower years ago and any lawnmower I bought since I merely connect the engine to the aluminium body. I've got a minimum of 15 years from each 2nd motor.
4. Little Tip:- Drill four holes in the blade (two at one end about 2" from each other and the same with the other end). Insert screws and bolt them underneath the blade securely - you now have a moss scarifier at nil cost too. Don't forget to remove the bolts after you have scarified the lawn once a year.

don't tell too many about it.
I fully agree, don't want to broadcast how gullible you are ! ;)

Doesn't matter how long between services the price is still nearly 43% the price of a new machine.
I would not be happy to pay €12,900 every three years, or €4,300 PA to get a €30,000 car serviced and a bloody lawnmower
is a lot less complicated than a car.

To the OP, just keep oil in it, sharpen the blade now and then and give it the odd cleaning and it will run for years.
Keep your €85 and when it eventually falls apart buy a new one.
