How long to modernise house?

Im just curious to know how long a time frame it has taken people to do up a house - redecorate rooms, put in new doors, alarm, get furniture etc. I was looking at hiring people to paint the house but after getting quotes, we've decided to do it ourselves. Someone advised to give ourselves a year to do everything.

It all depends on how much needs to be done are rewiring/replumming involved?
If it's only cosmetic work involved then the revamp should be quite quick.
If it's a major renovation then I'd say depending on funds give yourself a year of getting jobs done one after the other and you'll get there.

Helpful parenty advice:

Give it time and money.
You've all your life to do it.

It took me 3 months for major house renovations and another 3 months to finish it - painting, landscaping, carpets, curtains. It takes time and energy to chase people to do things properly! I'd advise you allow time and patience to finish it.
