How long to get Tax Disc

Long story short, bought second hand car 2 weeks ago. Was taxed previously up to Jan 17.
Dealer registered it for new tax to start 1st of July(today) he said back tax would cost a fair bit.
Haven't driven it since I collected it( Guards + no tax disk= trouble.)
What's the waiting time to get new disk ASAP. TIA
 
If the dealer did it online this morning you will have it by the end of the week, keep the receipt of payment in the car to show Garda if stopped, a reasonable period of time to get the disc out is always accepted, your insurance shows you bought the car in June so it should have taxed it from June Ist not July 1st.
 
The dealer sounds like a cowboy.

1 You are not liable for back tax, only from the month it became registered in your name.
2 The dealer can only put the change of registered owner through today
3 Assuming you get the RF100 sometime next week, it'll be the week after next before you get the tax disc back
4 You'll have been without the use of the car for the best part of 4 weeks
 
Thanks for replies, so I'll probably have to stick it out until then, luckily I've use of OH car till then.
