How long to get mortgage?

How long does it normally take between applying for a mortgage and getting the cheque (assuming everything else like solicitors/surveys don’t get in the way) ?
 
I think a lot dependson the lender and their exact requirements. If you have all the paperwork necessary and have life assurance etc.. sorted out it doesn't take that long. I have bought twice in the last 5 years and on both occasions it has been minor things which delayed proceedings i.e insurance 7 waiting for paperwork i.e. payslips,bank statements that sort of thing.
 
So far I have taken out a mortgage with a bank three years ago, re-mortgaged with them, then taken one out with another bank, and now moving the two mortgages to a totally different bank. Whatever amount of time each have told us it would take, it has taken four times that. Even when we had everything sent in, they lose things everytime. The quickest of all however, was PTSB who got us a top-up in about 3 weeks. Actually, no, the quickest reply EVER was when our solicitor applied for our redemption figures, so we could change our mortgage to another lender, PTSB were on the phone THAT DAY!! This was after we had waited for them to return our call for six months. So in all, quadruple whatever time the banks tell you it will take, and you'll get a good idea!
