How long takes to get P 45 ?

My wife's employer does not send P45 by her request for more than 3 weeks. We contacted to local Tax office to organize it for us . At the same time when we asked tax man about max waiting time for P 45 he said that that's up to employer . May be anybody been in that kind situation and may help me with advice ?

What reason did her employer give for the delay? It is usually issued with the last payslip
but if payroll is run monthly ; might take a bit longer.
 
And some employers delay as a means to mess people around.
 
Perhaps this is just sheer laziness, incompetence, plain bad manners or other reasons and I've come across this situation many times.

I would contact the employer for the final time telling him he has until Friday to produce the P45 or you will be contacting Revenue on Friday afternoon with your complaint/request
 
The problem is that Revenue will do nothing about a P45 not being produced. I have been down that road before. All you can do is ask Revenue to transfer all your remaining credits to the new employment on a week 1/month 1 basis for the remainder of the year.
