How long should property title search take?

In process of selling a house and buyer's solicitor is in process of doing title search. House is regular semi in 1990s estate. How long should this realistically take?
Many thanks in advance.
 
If it's a house that is registered in the Land Registry a title search will be done in an hour. If the house is registered in the Registry of Deeds the title search will be done in a day.
 
Thanks missdaisy, so a title search should really be no valid reason for holding up a sale?

Can we assume that there is, in fact, something more going on?

In any event, your own solicitor would be far better placed to advise you on the specifics of your situation.

Can't get in touch with him this morn as in court, but contracts due to returned this week yet buyer's solicitor has said this will be delayed they are in process of doing a title search. Just wondering if this is realistic or some form of delaying tactic?
