How long does the house buying process take?

I'll be moving to Ireland soon for a job, and for various reasons buying a home straight away would make sense. However, how long does it normally take from finding the place you want to the day you can move in? My future employer would provide accommodation for first 6 weeks - would that be a realistic timeframe, considering I already have a shortlist of suitable properties? I'm currently in the UK and here property purchase process can take forever...

Once you agree to buy a place, and if you, your solicitor and the bank process everything as quickly as you can, I'd say 6 wks would be achieveable.

If you are buying without a mortgage the process would be quicker.

6weeks would be very short, 8/10weeks is more realistic IMO.
In any case, can only be achieved if property you buy is vacant.

Are you getting a mortgage? Even a very strong appplication would take alot longer than 6 weeks to go through the mortgage application process. I presume you will get a survey done before buying the house (you should do) I think 6 weeks is a little optimistic tbh.

OK thanks everybody, I suspected it might be too optimistic, especially when a mortgage is required.
