How long does mortgage interest relief take to come through usually?

Just wondering because I applied at beginning of October and still didn't hear anything back. What's the usual wait time on this (I realise it's backdated to when I started paying mortgage but would just like to get all this sorted). Should I call the office to check or am I being very impatient?!

Mine took 2 months - bought in August, paid full mortgage amount in September and then the deduction came off in October.

Although I thought the full amount would be taken from my account and then get a refund, it was deducted from the actual mortgage amount.

But were your monthly repayments reduced after that? I thought you got the backlog from the first couple of months taken from your next repayment and then after that it's a standard amount off your repayments (133 per month or whatever applies).

Novembers has not come out, so I cant comment yet.. But I am assuming further amounts will be reduced by the relief amount.

Mine took a couple of months to come through.
Instead of receiving a full refund, my monthly mortgage repayments were reduced for a number of months. One the full refund had been offset, my repayments returned to the normal amount.

same experience as above - the backdated payments were given as an extra amount each month until the end of the year when it was then given as the normal amount each month.

however, I had applied in june and nothing happened for 3 months, when i phoned i found out that the account number the bank had given me as the mortgage account number was incorrect so the form hadnt been processed as it had an error on it. But no one bothers to tell you if there is a problem with the application so you only find out when you phone yourself to enquire.

We applied back in October and just got letter yesterday with details of our new monthly repayment. There was a drop of €177. We started paying our Mortgage in May but did not apply until october so we are owed a few months. Bank informed me this morning that I should get this before Christmas. I can either have it offset against mortgage or just get a cheque sent out. It was a very easy process so i would just have a wee bit more patience and u should hear from your bank soon.

Well I emailed them today and they replied saying they had two First Active mortgage accounts listed under my name so they hadn't processed it. Despite the fact that I marked clearly on application that I was no longer on previous mortgage. So told them this AGAIN and they said grand that it's now put through and it will be in place for my January payment. So basically if I hadn't contacted them it looks like they wouldn't have bothered contacting me to see what the story is either. AND we wonder why the government is so inefficient - maybe higher IQ should be required for government workers...

Hi,

I have a similar issue with TRS. applied online in august but turns out I did not have the account number in the right format. applied again early in Oct so still waiting. Is it best to contact the revenue or the bank. I contacted the bank before but they just said I would have to wait and see!

same happened to me. Rang up to see why I wasn't receiving tax relief (having submitted form 10 weeks ago)and they were able to tell me (quite speedy) that an account detail was wrong on the form. I asked was it not policy to let people know this and I didn't get much of a response. Amended form and was told a further 2 month wait. Asked if my form could be checked just to make sure that everything was ok and I was told that this could not be done unless they received the form back telling them there was an error in about 6 weeks. I couldn't believe it... I am due to get tax relief off my mortgage in December so I guess all i can do is keep my fingers crossed....
