Can conveyancing take months? My friend put a booking deposit on a house a few months ago and has yet to pay the rest of the deposit because the contracts are not ready to be signed.
There is no set timescale - it could be held up for a number of reasons;
- the house could be in probate
- the deeds may have been lost
- there could be a hold up with the local authority
etc, etc, etc. Your friend should get onto the selling agent and/or the vendor's solicitor, either via his/her solicitor or directly, to find out what the problem is.
