How long do builders quotes take?

My wife and I are building a house this summer (we hope this summer) and have contacted a number of contractors for quotes to build the house (we are living and working too far away to go direct labour). Four weeks have now passed from the time we spoke with builder number 1, and we still haven't heard back from him. Is this length of time normal? they all said they would get back to us in a week or so.

seamus should only take 1-2 weeks unless they need a price on something particulr. Deffinately shouldnt take 4 weeks. Ive priced apartment blocks in that time.......

If they are serious about tendering they would be back to you in a week or two. I'd say builder 1 is not interested tbh.

It would be reasonable at this stage to ask if he's still interested.

In any event, it's preferable to ask for a number of quotes simultaneously so that some sort of average cost/specification can bes established.
