There is currently no charge for domestic water usage in Ireland. However water charges are certain to be introduced in the coming years. It will most likely be metered and charged by usage.

The particular area in co clare that you mentioned may not be connected to a public water supply. Also it may not be connected to a public sewerage system.

There is no charge for sewage at the moment either - a charge is being introduced for septic tanks from next year.

Re water charges if you run any business you are liable for water charges. while you get a free amount you pay for anything above this. We run a small business and use just above our free allowance. Normally the water we use that is chargeable is about €5 or €10 per bill very little. Which is fair to pay for what you use
Where they get you and where i think the general public do not realize they will be caught once the charges are introduced for everyone is the meter rental "trick". Oh yes you pay for the meter rental and maintenance sorry they call it a "Network Management Charge" , which is basically nil cost to the CC at a quarterly charge of €26.25 = €105 yearly just for the meter.

So people when they talk about the free water you are going to get dont think they will advertise this charge
