How do i get my money back?

Can anyone help? I paid 4000 euro up front for a domestic water treatment system, however when i called the company to come and install it they wouldn't answer. I've since found out that they have gone out of business.
My solicitor informed me that as there isn't currently a county sherrif in that area of the country to recover our debt our only option is to put a court order on the sale of this persons house.
Is there any other way i can recover my money, perhaps a personal debt collection agency?

Debt collection agencies are generally overpriced and not as effective as the court process in recovering debts. Nevertheless, if the company has 'gone out of business' and has insufficient assets to meet its liabilities, then the reality is that you are very unlikely to recover the debt. Whether there is a County Sheriff or not in such circumstances is of no particular relevance.

If the company is insolvent, forget it.
