I have 5 AI Contributions in 2008 and 18 in 2009, I spoke with SW Longford and they told me I need 26 in total, prior to 2008 i was self employed for 12 years on SI. I am waiting a major heart operation, and on DA, with spouse and 2 children, I am 51 years old. I eventually will sell this house as it is to big, I can not look after the maintenance.

My old company is still going, I never go any money after I left in May 2009, They are preared to make the 3 AI contributions in 2010, as I was in hospital 9 weeks in 2009, where they did not make the AI contribution of Euro 38 per week. Is this acceptable to SW, they would not answer, other than to say if I had another 3 A1 contributions, I would qualify for the non means tested Invalitidy Pension in 2012

You cannot 'purchase' Class A contributions; they are only payable for bona fide employment. As you were not employed or earning in those 9 weeks, A cons were not payable.

SW Longford stated if I can get 3 AI in 2010, I could apply in 2012 for Invalidity Pension, as my medical condition is progressive

Ah, that's different; I was talking about in previous years, JEON50! I read your post as them making cons for 2009 in 2010 for the 9 weeks!
But how are you going to work if you are on long term illness? Perhaps the work could be of a rehabilitative nature? Check that out maybe here?

SW "A1" contributions do not qualify. The only contributions that are allowed are from non SW sources. Anybody been in this situation before ?

Explain more please. SW A1don't apply for what? What type of contributions are non-SW sources? are we talking about 'credits' here rather than paid 'work' contributions? If you work, then the A1 yopu pay would count but if you are claiming then credits will not count to qualify. They must be actual contirbutons. paid.

Yes , Credits are not the problem. I need to come up with 3 A1 "WORK" contributions. I have a number of companies looking for summer cover for 10 hours a week for about 6 weeks max @ 8.89 per hour, also pay full AI, just holiday cover

Would you be able to do those 10 hours per week for 6 weeks which would give you 6 PRSI (A1) payments.
You would need to get the permission of the Dept as it would be probably considered Rehabilitative work and therefore requires an exemption of Rule 5

Actually I do need permission, and the work is with dept. of tourism, wrong type of contribution, aah

Why would the contribution be the wrong type?

All employees in civil/public service pay class A PRSI unless they were employed prior to 1995 and continue to be employed by the civil/public service.

I have the job for 6 weeks, maternity cover, now 16 hours per week, I ave GP approval, I just need SW approval. Its all part of rehab services. My speech is good,French and German, working on
