Not sure where to place this, as am interested in buying a bit of land am hoping this is the right place.

I'd love to have a little allotment to grow my own veg and fruits.

Is there any way of purchasing a small piece of land in Ireland (specifically Wicklow) to be used for growing veg and fruit?, the allotment system doesn't seem to exist here.

Should I approach a local farmer and see if he would be interested in selling me a small plot of land or is the idea just to far out in an Irish context to try?

perhaps approach it from a rental point of view, the farmer may have a plot that he would be happy to have someone tend?

read in the sunday times gardening section a few weeks ago about allotments, there was a queue but you could apply with each of the councils and go on the waiting list

best of luck

Some urban Councils (eg Fingal) run this scheme, but ASAIK Wicklow do not. You do not buy the land, but pay a peppercorn rent for the right to grow fruit and veg, I think about 20e per year.

Why don't you lobby Wicklow TDs and Councillors, they have enough land, and as the County becomes more urbanised, its a acheme that could work.
