If you don't live or pay tax here are you liable for the LPT? It's described as a tax, not a charge.
They do go on to say in the rules section that if you are not Irish you need to provide...I am not resident in Ireland but I need a PPS number - how do I get it?
In some cases people who are not resident in Ireland may need a PPS Number. For example, someone who is a beneficiary under an Irish will may need to supply a PPS number before a grant of probate can issue.
The Department of Social Protection's Client Identity Services (CIS) provide a Registration Service for non-resident applicants who cannot attend at a designated PPS Registration Centre and who need a PPS Number for a transaction with a specified body.
Technically (I think) Switzerland is not in the EEA but often has agreements in place so that it is treated as if it were. Which would mean no need for an immigration card, which your friend presumably doesn't have. At any rate, might be worth a try....the following documents:
EU/EEA citizen - Your passport or national identity card
Non EU/EEA citizen - Your passport and immigration card (GNIB card)
And
Evidence of your address, such as a household bill in your name.
You can't apply for a PPS in Ireland unless you are resident here at some stage.
I have tried to pay the LPT on line, it won't let me do it because I don't have a PPSN number as I don't live in IRELAND, i paid last years tax and have a ID number and a PIN number, I am sure there is thousands of people in a similar position, who have holiday homes in Ireland , so why set up a website with no facility to accommodate people who are non residents in IRELAND.
Does anyone know a way around this error in administration,
Non-resident and exceptional customers
If you are non-resident, unable to attend because of illness, or working abroad, then personal attendance at one of our network of PPS Number allocation centres is not necessary. Please use the Online Enquiry Form to contact Client Identity Services or telephone 1890 927 999 (If you are calling from outside the Republic of Ireland please call + 353 71 967 2616) to have the necessary forms sent to you in the post.
