How can a property owner living overseas pay online LPT - no Irish PPSN or Tax Reg no

PPSN Mandatory

Yes, the PPSN is a mandatory field and you cannot log in without it.

I am having the same problem as the original poster.

I have sent an e-mail and phoned frequently the number for overseas (+ 353 1 7023049), no answer, no voicemail.

I had the same problem earlier in the year and finally was told to use the “I do not have an Irish PPSN or Tax Registration number' option but this seems to have been removed this time round.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No answer to my e-mail from Revenue so far, not even acknowledgement of receipt.

Thank you

If you don't live or pay tax here are you liable for the LPT?
It's described as a tax, not a charge.

If you own the property then you are liable for the LPT.

I know of a Swiss national who owns a holiday home in Co Kerry. He comes over with his family for 6/7 weeks during the summer and a few long weekends over the rest of the year.

How does he pay the LPT due on his holiday home on-line with out an Irish PPSN number or an Irish Tax number?

Might be easiest to just try getting a PPSN. According to the citizens information website:
I am not resident in Ireland but I need a PPS number - how do I get it?
In some cases people who are not resident in Ireland may need a PPS Number. For example, someone who is a beneficiary under an Irish will may need to supply a PPS number before a grant of probate can issue.

The Department of Social Protection's Client Identity Services (CIS) provide a Registration Service for non-resident applicants who cannot attend at a designated PPS Registration Centre and who need a PPS Number for a transaction with a specified body.
They do go on to say in the rules section that if you are not Irish you need to provide...
...the following documents:

EU/EEA citizen - Your passport or national identity card
Non EU/EEA citizen - Your passport and immigration card (GNIB card)
And

Evidence of your address, such as a household bill in your name.
Technically (I think) Switzerland is not in the EEA but often has agreements in place so that it is treated as if it were. Which would mean no need for an immigration card, which your friend presumably doesn't have. At any rate, might be worth a try.

'If you don't have a pps number they ask you for your foreign tax number.'

That was the last time, in May, but now you don't even get to that stage. I have tried using my non-Irish Tax number but it will not accept it. Still no answer from the Revenue to my email from last Friday!

You can't apply for a PPS in Ireland unless you are resident here at some stage.

I believe you will find that you are misinformed. A PPSN may be required by certain official bodies (e.g. Revenue) in dealings with people who have never set foot in the state (Irish national or no). There is a provision for issuing PPSN under those circumstances, although front line DSP staff may not be aware of that.

Holiday home

I have tried to pay the LPT on line, it won't let me do it because I don't have a PPSN number as I don't live in IRELAND, i paid last years tax and have a ID number and a PIN number, I am sure there is thousands of people in a similar position, who have holiday homes in Ireland , so why set up a website with no facility to accommodate people who are non residents in IRELAND.
Does anyone know a way around this error in administration,

It seems that you will need a PPSN. If you'd bought your Irish property since the introduction of the PPSN system, you already have one AFAIK.

Non-resident and exceptional customers

If you are non-resident, unable to attend because of illness, or working abroad, then personal attendance at one of our network of PPS Number allocation centres is not necessary. Please use the Online Enquiry Form to contact Client Identity Services or telephone 1890 927 999 (If you are calling from outside the Republic of Ireland please call + 353 71 967 2616) to have the necessary forms sent to you in the post.

Have gone into the lpt link dont have the option below i am trying from outside the country

Change tab to "I have not received a Property Pin"
Anybody else have same problem?

I finally got through to Revenue by telephone, using 01-7023049.

They issued me with a temporary tax number that I need to use from now on when paying this tax. I do not know why they changed it from the last time.

It is best to phone early in the morning as then it is not so busy. Good luck!
