Just a quick question I wanted to throw out to the forum.

Has anyone any information or opinions on investing in Afghanistan?

A friend of a friend is over there with the UN and apparently there's a killing to be made there with a view to future developments/yields if you get in there early? I know it has a bit of bad rep at the moment but im thinking of this as a pension alternative so id be looking to the long term return.

Can anyone recommend an agent who deals with there or has anyone visited there lately?

I'm just back from a factfinding mission to Helmand province. Great opportunities to get in on the ground floor (the top floor was bombed). As a golf fan, I recommend the Taliban Golf & Country Club (US PGA standard course). If you are into hunting (for Osama) its a real treat. Easy communication links (I heard a rumour that Ryanair are about to open up a route). Night life is just out of this world with bars, restaurants, discos etc.
Prole, I think to are really ahead of the possee on this. Sell your Turkish, Albanian, Croatian apartments and get in early. If you want a contact I suggest Taliban Estates. They are a some outfit.

When you say "as a pension alternative", are you planning to solely invest in Afghanistan property? Basically, betting your entire future as a pensioner on the current anti-Taliban missions there?

Perhaps you should also think about Iraq.....I am sure somebody of your obvious investment ability and vision can find good opportunities there too!
 
Nope you are getting mixed up. You mean Fingers Fingleton. Gilligan used to operate an Air Courier service from there. Very profitable now retired to the Midlands.
 
Nope, he went to Kabul in '79 and was there until the Russians invited themselves in. After that he returned and founded NCB.
 
A friend of mine is in the British Army (officer) - he was posted to Afghanistan for a while. He reckons the UK/US are on a hiding to nowhere there. They're never going to eradicate the Taliban, just suppress them for a while.

I'd avoid if I were you.
 
The thing that most entertains me (always!) on AAM is how irony is SOOOOO lost on some people! LMAO!!!

Whilst accepting that as the risks increase so do potential rewards, surely that country will plunge into a civil war once the US and UK leave. If your property is still standing, the Taliban won't take too kindly to foreign owners!

Is it true that Osama waited for Fingers to get out before setting up base, on the grounds that there wasn't room for the pair of them in any one country?

That is why I thought they might be captured and tortured. They just might think the same of EAs there as here !!
