Are these figures accurate, I read them on a UK forum...

Housing vacancy rate in Ireland is 15%. In the UK it is 3.5%

Number of houses being built in Ireland is 100,000 pa. Ireland has a population of 4.3 million.

Number of houses being built in the UK is 170,000 pa. The UK has a population 63 million.

no need to go to a UK forum the answers are on this forum!

heres a quick link I found from another Irish forum it includes links to all the points made

so basically yes we have an unusually high vacancy rate coupled with the fact theres alot of houses being built this year.

Some shortage of houses huh!
And people are on waiting lists in queues overnight etc (well in the past)

There is massive immigration into the UK as well so its not that much a distorting factor.
