Hi all,

I hope this is the right section for this thread. Here is my situation, I am leasing a house off a landlord and I am renting a room in the house to another person. The person renting the room off me what's to claim for rent allowance and I just would like to know who does he reference (PPS Number) on his rent allowance form.

I was talking to the landlord who said that an accountant told him that he should reference my PPS number as he is renting a room off me and then I reference the landlord on my rent allowance form.

Is this correct any information that you could give me would be appreciated as I have been told that if the guy renting the room off me puts down my name I'll get caught for tax etc.

Thanks,
AM

Hi Anto

I don't know the answer, but it shouldn't affect you tax wise.

You have taxable income of the rent he is paying you, but you can write off the rent you are paying the landlord, so there is no tax on it.

As long as the net rent you are paying is less that that you are claiming rent relief for, then you are ok
