Household Charge Database

When I was finished paying the charge, I removed the property from the system. I cited the reason "I have paid the household charge. This fulfils my obligation under the statue. It is my right under the data protection act to ask you to delete my personal information now this obligation has been met."

Does anyone know if this is illegal, or am I within my rights to remove the property in this way, and to add it again should the need arise?

Another little spanner I threw into the works was to enter my house number in words (twenty-three fake street) and the town name in Irish.

I really hope the household charge becomes a nightmare for the government, but unfortunately with a house in a lot of negative equity and PTSB's punitive interest rates I really can't afford to protest by paying it late.

tenchi-ghost - Im sorry to tell you that while you think youve removed your property, chances are you have not removed your property but doing the 'removal' on the website just means that its no longer attached directly to your name and pps number or viewable to you, but unless they had complete chimps writing the interface, there is no doubt in my mind that both the property plus your details are still in there somewhere.

OP under the legislation you must provide details of your property, quote from section 6 as follows:

6.—(1) The owner of a residential property who, on a liability
date, is liable to pay a household charge to a relevant local authority,
or is entitled to a waiver from payment of a household charge under
subsection (4) of section 4, in respect of the year in which that liability
date falls, shall, before the expiration of such period as may be prescribed,
make and provide to that local authority a statement in writing
containing such information relating to the residential property
concerned as may be prescribed for the purpose of enabling the
Minister to prepare and maintain a database of residential properties
in the State containing details of accommodation, facilities and
services available in respect of such properties.
(2) A statement under this section shall be in such form as may
be prescribed.
(3) A person who contravenes subsection (1) or (2) shall be guilty
of an offence and shall be liable on summary conviction to a class
C fine.
