Sorry, but as a compliant taxpayer, I'm rather pleased that they won't!


My point was that they told me that interest charges on LPT oustanding due to an earlier deferral (on the basis of low income of the person involved) are statutory and not discretionary so they do not/cannot discount/reduce them. And earlier post suggested otherwise but was maybe referring to some other charges or circumstances. I was just updating the thread in case the information helps clarify matters for others. I asked if they could reduce them at all and they told me that I was right to ask but the answer was "no".

Apologies; my comment had a far wider application than just your individual situation.

I also think that you were quite right to ask - always ask!

Furthermore, in the case of a Social Welfare payment, always apply and let the Deciding Officer decide.
