House Purchase Closing Date Question

Hi folks I have a query regarding closing date for house purchase. I have agreed to buy a house, paid all deposits, signed contract, but contract has not been returned by my solicitor to vendors yet as we dont have agreed closing date. I am only renting so there is no chain on my side, but they are buying on. Am having quite a lot of issues with them regarding a closing date and it is stressing me, orignally I proposed closing date for the end of May about 3 weeks ago, their solicitor never replied to my solicitor regarding closing date request and then suddenly went on holiday for a week, so today they have come back to me proposing 4th June which is fine. The issue that I am having is that I pay rent on first Monday of every Month, and must give a months notice. My solicitor is telling me that just beciase a date is proposed dosent mean that we get to move in that date, especially as their is a chain involved, I cannot understand this, as if we agree a date that should be the date to move, I am flexable if the closing date over ran by a week, but I am worried that after we hand in our notice on our current accodomation, our landlord will obviously then advertise the apartment and start showing people around and could then agree a date for somebody to move in, and we could be left high and dry if the vendors are still in the house that we are meant to be buying. Also there will be no issue with our apertment being vacant, if our landlord cannot get somebody in on the rate they we are paying I know he will know knock money of, as thats how we got it in the first place. From a legal point of view where do we stand, thank you.

It's very difficult but it's part of the hassle of buying a house. There isn't a huge amount you can do. You can talk to your landlord and explain the situation and he might be flexible.
