Hi,

I am considering moving to the west of Ireland in the next 6 -12 months.

Does anyone know what the true market price is for a typical semi detached house in towns across Mayo. The prices on daft/auctioneer sites etc. still seem to be inflated. If anyone has bought recently or has a good knowledge of the market I would be grateful for comments.

Thanks,

CC

if youve got €50k cash you'll buy the best 4 bed semi in any town in Mayo > €20k in the backwaters > offer 10% of what theyre asking (and theyll ask big if they think you have money). Have fun!

You need to have a look here www.thepropertypin.com

they will give you all the advice you need, a bit of it will be glib but they are never too far off the money.....

The true market price for Houses at present is what somebody is willing to pay. There is no exact science in making an offer and whatever prices you are advised on a Public Forum must be classed as contentuous. In a negative market, prices are what people are willing to pay.

CC, apologies, I forgot to give you the most important piece of news in relation to your query..Dermot Ahern recently announced that a database of property prices, the actual prices houses sold for will established so we can all see what price is paid for a house..this legislation should be finalised in the next Dail session.. see link below..the establishmnet of this databasde should give you the precise information you seek...

But do remember that whatever somebody has paid is not indicative as to what somebody will pay

Great idea - should have been implemented years ago. I wonder will it lead to another drop in asking prices as the 'real' values become apparent?

Will this allow you to see exactly what was paid for a specific property or is it more general where it shows averages for an area? From a privacy perspective, I know I wouldn't like the purchase price I paid for a property to be common knowledge.
