House plans..living area upstairs?

I want to build a house in the near future and want to have my living space,.ie kitchen, sitting room, etc... upstairs and bedroom/bathroom downstairs.Has anybody else done it this way and who are the best people to talk to about this?Any help would be greatly appreciated

We viewed some apartments like this and really liked the layout. In the end the location made us decide against it. I guess my only concern would be security but then again I grew up in a bungalow and had no worries there!

My son has just built his house and put all the living areas up stairs.
You do not need to talk to anyone about it. You just design your house that way and apply for planning permission and build it. The planners never expressed any feelings on the matter.
We designed it ourselvs and had it drawn up by the architect.
