House or apartment

I've been on the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown list for some years. Still only around the 1000 mark on the list. In the unlikely event that I'm offered something in the near future, does anyone know whether I can opt for a house rather than an apartment? Do they offer houses at all?

The reason I ask is that I'm originally from the country and the thought of living in an apartment with noisy neighbours on all sides and above and below me is not a nice one. Plus, it would be nice to have a small garden at the back. Maybe I'm being too choosy and I should take what I get!

Hi pingin i dont think it works that way and if you move into a house you can also get noisey neighbours i know a couple of friends and they have neighbours from hell and they both have houses so can happen in houses aswell as apartments

Are you on the list for social or affordable housing?
AH with DLR is mostly apartments at the moment AFAIK. You dont really get any choice. Certainly with SDCC you have to prove you cannot afford a property (by getting approval in principle) before they will offer you something else. If you decide you just don't like it, then you go to the end of the list. When I signed up first you had two refusals before you went to the end of the list but that rule seems to be gone now.

I'm on the affordable homes list. I see that they've changed the rules now; you just have to prove that you've lived in the council area for six years.

With the fall in property prices, maybe I'd be better off just looking for a normal mortgage, though the small matter of a 10% deposit doesn't go away and could be more of a problem than ever.

I am also from the country and I live in an apartment and I couldnt be happier! People have a really negative view of apartments. It depends on the developer, but many apartments are very well built these days. I rarely hear my neighbours and I have a huge balcony that serves the garden purpose!
