House Insurance on old house

My house is older than the 80 years or so that they allow you to input on the insurance websites. Do the insurance companies get out an assessor for the age of the house, any faults etc or do they just go by how many years old it is??

The house is around 150 years old.

Mine is over 100 years old and some insurers don't cover it but I called around and found a number who would - I went with AA in the end. They didn't send anyone out, nope. I think they just go by the year it was built. As you probably know, Quinn is doing free home insurance (to €200 a year) if you have car and health insurance with them. For me, AA actually saved me more than that 200 quid a year once my car insurance and AA membership was accounted for.

AIB (using Axa I think?) do insure houses over 100 years old, Hibernian don't.

AIG cover them as well. Generally those that cover these properties will ask if the house has been rewired/replumbed in the last number of years and if the house is a listed property. If your answers are yes & no, then you should be OK.
