Home house insurance and criminal convictions

A friend of mine was asked by her parents to look for house insurance from them. Apparentlty there is a question on the form about does anyone in the house have a criminal conviction and if you answer yes they won't quote you.

Her brother lives with the parents and was bound to the peace for having hash.

where can they get insurance?
 
Was it a criminal conviction though? Even if it is, why not admit it and see what the insurance company says.
 
I would agree with above, if they won't quote for this reason there are specialist home insurers that will cover a client with a conviction.
 
I don't know if it was a criminal conviction or not they were cautioned. My friend has asked a broker to check out and he came back and said no quotes. I don't understand why this would be a barrier to getting insurance and wonder if it is illegal to do this. Jimbobp do you have the name of some specialist insurance companies.
 
Is it any conviction or serious conviction.
Is this just a way to void an insurance policy with syspect people surely of someone had a drunk and disorderly conviction 20 years ago is it in the states interest to ensure they cant gwt a mortgage

How much hash are we talking about here? ;)

I don't think being bound to the peace is a criminal conviction, it's more like a slap on the wrist.

Phone a Garda station and ask them, they'll tell you in a jiffy.
 
Any of the specialist insures would deal through brokers. If he wants to log on to our site and drop me a mail, I'll check it out for him.
