A large recently renovated house built originally in approx. 1930 suffered extensive fire damage. First suggestion is that fire started in upstairs hot press and then went into attic area. Apaart from getting an experience electrical person to check wiring in your house is there any other practical things that could be done to minimise this risk. I had in mind question of putting fire alarms in the hot press and attic? Talking to one of the fire fighters it appears such fires can often be alight for some time before it is noticed.
