Hi,

We purchased a 8 cubic feet upright Hotpoint Frost Free Freezer last year. I noticed recently even in the very cold weather that it seems to be running a lot. Is this normal? My assumption was that this was a very efficient freezer as it has an A+ rating.

Recently changed to "frost free" fridge/freezer, it was a completely different running sound/intervals to our old B rated one. Read the booklet and this is stated in it.

Notice ours "powers up" when door left open bit too long either in the freezer or the fridge.

make sure there is enough gaps around the unit to allow for proper ventalation. couls be that the motor is running more to cool itself. Check too and see if anything is lodged or blocking the drip tray at the back.

To make sure, you could get one of those plug in energy monitors to measure how much power it's using over the course of a few days. The manual or energy rating label should tell you the expected power usage, if you're getting a different result, then there's likely a problem with the unit itself, or as Tired Paul says, it's location/surroundings.
