Another thread about the temp of water in the hp tank being heated to
60°c got me thinking....

As only two people here.....we only need hot water for whb in bathroom and sink in kitchen and a bath about every two weeks.

It's a single circuit with the c.h... heating the hot water in the tank and the shower is an instanteanous so no worries there.

Would we be better off using the immersion with a timer to heat our water as required all year round and shut off the central heating system from heating the water in the hot press tank as this seems soo wasteful.

If your cylinder is well insulated, perhaps the best thing you can do in your situation is to use off-peak electricity at night to heat your cylinder. Do you have a day/night meter? While you're at it, run the washing machine and everything else you can at night.

Demand side management is going to be a big feature of the grid as time goes on. Wind blows all night while we're in the scratcher, and something has to use the power...
