Could anyone recommend what area district in hong kong
would be the best to stay in , in terms of ease of access to
the sights good value etc

In terms of being central try Causeway Bay.

All hotels in HK are pricey, but there are a couple of cheap B&Bs in Causeway - double room with shower if you're not too fussy from about $50 per night.

Stayed in HK twice last year. At these hotels

Both are modern and clean. Probably more to do in the immediate vicinity of the stanford.

Personally I would stay on HK Island. The novotel is on the western side of the island so a bit of a walk to all the shopping in Central but wandering the streets of HK is one of its attractions.

There is a tramway stop about 5 mins walk from the novotel (can't remember which line though)

Wanchai on HK Island is good, plenty to see, near to Central (shopping & business district), handy for the Star ferry to Kowloon.

Hi

I previously stayed in Kowloon (view of the bay) - super hotel:

Grand Standford - Intercontinential Hotel
70 MODY RD, TSIMSHATSUI E. KOWLOON
HONG KONG,
CHINA

Downtown: HONG KONG 0 KM / 0 MI

Hotel Front Desk: 852-27215161

- Limo from the hotel picked us up at the airport and brought is right to the hotel (organised by the hotel), €50 well spent as it saved the hastle of trying to figure out where we were going when we first laneded etc.

HK is relatively easy to get around, given most HK people speak English. Their subway is quite good etc.

Take the opportunity to travel a little from HK, trains are easily used to get into China for example, only a short distance away.

Great spot, hope you enjoy it.

Cheers
