Still haven't changed my car, drove a 2003 Honda CRV 2 L petrol last night and fell in love... Am I mad to buy a petrol guzelling car. This will be my car to ferry the kids around and drive in to work every day.. No off roads. As an accountant my head normally rules but not in this case. Anyone own one of these cars or recommendations on what I should look out for..
I have a friend with a CRV he has clocked almost 200k miles and it's still driving perfect no bother at all.
It is a petrol monster though at 25 mpg so you might be better off going for a diesel suv maybe a Suzuki Vitara or Toyota Rav4
RAV4 2.2 diesel is €2700 more than the 2.0 petrol.
Need to drive someting like 70,000kms before starting to see the benefit of the diesel.
In the other hand, Nissan X-trail is the same price petrol or diesel.
Top Gear showed vrash results of a freelander.
Very poor worse then a fiesta in a front offset car.
Conclusion it was safer to crash in a 03 fiesta than a 03 freelander.
If you are ferrying kids look at the NCAP rating as well.
Look for 4 or better.
hi, i have a 99 Honda CRV .. bought it on a bit of a whim last year and i don't think i will be getting rid of it for a while yet and then i will 99% sure go for another one..
good things about it.it's up high, loads of boot space and it's like a van when u put the seats down on the back.comfort.mine is now at 104k with no problems
bad points .. not many. i find the fuel consumption ok.if the kids are under 5.it might be a bit high for them getting in and out on theri own.
if you are on country windy roads it can be a bit bumpy.
i went from Cork to Dublin on approx 12 occasions last year and it was excellent.
i know a fairly well off individual who had a 2002 3 series BMW and traded it for a crv 2 months ago and he is thrilled with the Honda..
i hope this helps
My wife is on her second one of these mighty machines, first one bought new in 1999 and second one bought new in 2002 and I have to tell you that it is a 100% excellent family vehicle and does it all with total reliability, repeat, total reliability....................
Now me, I prefer to drive BMW and Merc but its my wife who keeps on picking me up and dropping me off at the merc dealer when its being treated for its latest, ahem, problem.
Thanks everyone for your feedback, and I have decided to go buy the CRV. Picking it tomorrw, can't wait and the other good thing is that I am saying goodbye to my Punto!!
