Hi, My wife is a stay at home mum of 4 kids. She moved over here from the US 14 years ago where she'd built up a good credit score. All bills and mortgage are paid in my name, She's now looking to start working again, in the meantime is there anything she can do to start building up a credit score here. Should she set up a credit union
account and take out a small loan, apply for a credit card with an Post? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

There's not really any such thing as a credit score in Ireland. In fact, having a series of short term loans counts against you.

But lenders will look at her repayment history when it comes to evaluating her credit score and use that to decide if they'll lend to her. Is it not better to be able to show you've a history of regular repayments in that case. Sorry for any dumb questions

No, lenders will look to see if she's ever been in arrears or defaulted on a loan. That's it.
If she wanted to have a record on ICB for the sake ok it, just get a credit card.
