Homebase's No Delivery Charge Offer - Beware

My parents ordered a new bathroom suite from Homebase and were glad of the no delivery charge offer that is heavily promoted instore. Unfortunately when the suite was delivered the driver asked for €25 and he insisted my parents were wrong about the no delivery charge offer. My father called the store and was told that Homebase contracts out delivery and the man needed paying, so somewhat annoyed, my dad paid.

When the suite was being installed the side panel was missing. So the next day my dad went back to Homebase and got it, he brought up the matter of the delivery charge and they said he shouldn't have had to pay. They did refund him.

Just a word of warning to others!

They have a non-refundable €30 charge for furniture ordered from their on-line catalogue.

They are a bit all over the place with their info and ordering system. When I enquired about chairs that were quoted in euros in their furniture catalogue they told me they can only be ordered in the U.K.

Sue Ellen,

Try Argos. Homebase furniture is the same as Argos furniture. I think Homebase and Argos are owned by the same parent company. And Argos have free delivery.

Do Homebase have any/most of their furniture visible in-store? There's a sofa I'm thinking of buying in the Argos catalogue, but what's putting me off is the fact that I can't see or try it out before buying it - it's home delivery only. I know Argos have a good returns policy, but the notion of making arrangements to stay at home for a delivery, then finding the sofa is really uncomfortable or something and having to wait at home again for its removal, just doesn't appeal. There's no Homebase near me, so I've never been, but I'd travel if it meant I could try out the Argos/Homebase sofa before buying it.
