Allianz Direct seem to be doing an excellent rate at the moment for on-line home insuracen quotations - so or anyone looking check it out at

Our insurance is due for renewal this month and having had a quick look around it seems as if insurance premiums have come down significantly in the last year or so. Does anybody (especially those in the industry) know if this is the case?

How long before the cost of Hurricane Katrina starts impacting on the reinsurance markets?

Just like Clubman, our house insurance is due for renewal soon. Got about six 'quick' quotes - ALL quotes were much less than our insurance for last year, even with increased buildings cover. Last years was less than the previous years too.

However, I suspect next year will see hefty increases due to Katrina .....

Funny - last year our premium increased significantly (with no major changes in cover other than indexing the buildings cover for inflation based on the SCS guide) with the AA, they were not willing to reduce it and for the first time in a decade we moved to another source (FBD).

FBD are in market for home insurance. try their nearest office as they seem to refer any phone call to the nearest office.

Er, I know - that's who we bought from last year!?

I bought from them online last year.

FBD are still working out cheaper like for like with allianz even with there online discount...alot of people never give them a try...my sister saved a 100 euro's on her insurance when she changed last week..she thought the the renewal quote from her original would be the best offer..she got a big surprise..
And i don't work for FBD

Found FBD up to three times cheaper than three other insurers. Didn't bother calling into any office, just rang them up on 1850 617 617

Thanks for the info about house insurance we were going through a broker and they worked out €150 more expensive than fbd.

Alliance direct are 100 euro cheaper for me compared to last year even with an increase in sums insured. FBD about 80 euros dearer than Alliance direct.

Make sure to compare policies on the terms & conditions in the policy booket and not just on price alone. It's possible that the policy selected by your broker offers more comprehensive cover than others that you have seen and that it is more suited to your specific needs. On the other hand it could simply be uncompetitive. Ask your broker what the differences are between cheaper policies that you have found online or elsewhere and the one(s) that s/he has suggested.
