Home home insurance repayments

Hi,
General knowledge info.
I recently discovered I had been paying 2 lots of home insurance (santander and M & S) because I forgot to cancel a direct debit (santander). After a phone call Santander said as long as I sent them photocopies of both policies they would return at least 50% of my costs for what really was my mistake. I realise my responsibility, in this era of non paper, is to keep up with phone, email records but how difficult is that. If Santander pay me back - top marks. If not I'll post it.

standard procedure would be for both companies to make a refund. It may not be as simple as 50% of each, as sums insured may have been different.
