Home Insurance Issue

Hi i have 2 questions.

[1] Can you change your mortgage cover after your mortgage has been drawn down. I had assumed you can but my girlfriend thinks you cant.

[2] When we were filling in our cover questionnaire there was a question along the lines of "Have any of your parents died as a result of heart or organ failure" to which we both answered no. Later on my girlfriend started to worry as her mother had died of alcohol related problems but on her mothers death cert it may have Liver failure as the cause of death. Its been bothering us for a while and all we want to know is would our policy be void if the insurance company investigated should any claim be made. The policy has been opened now and we have been paying for 4 months. We should have sorted it out straight away but it was only something that occured to us after we had made the first payment.

Just to be clear, does your query relate to Mortgage Protection insurance (i.e. the policy that will clear the mortgage if one/other person dies), and not home insurance (the policy that covers the house against fire/flood/burglary)?

You can change mortgage protection policy after the mortgage has been drawn down.

If you have any doubts about the medical issues, just tell the insurance company what you know, and they will take it from there. It's not worth losing sleep over possible voiding of the policy.
