Home Improvement Loan

Hi just wondering can anyone advise me on whats my best option for a home improvement loan. We need to borrow €38K, own our own home and have no loans or mortgages. The only problem is my husband is self employed and his business is relevantly new!!! Anyone I have spoken to interested in lending to the self employed will only lend a minimum of €100k. Any suggestions!!

Are you sure that you could not do an equity release mortgage for that sort of amount over a few years? A mortgage secured on the property ideally over a few years rather than a few decades would almost certainly be the cheapest way to borrow and would benefit from owner occupier mortgage interest relief. You would however probably need mortgage protection life assurance too. Have you asked a good mortgage broker for their view on what the options are in this respect?
