I am stumped, I want to check if I did get kerosene oil put in the tank yesterday as the guy would not wait until i got home and i stupidly opened the lock on the tank!!

So I now know u can have home heating oil, diesel oil, kerosene oil but how in gods name does one know what u actually get?? Is there a simple way of telling because my brand new grant condensing boiler was spouting very black smoke today after getting it filled yesterday and I am worried. Boiler cost a fortune.

Help!

what does the delivery docket say?

If no docket, why not and phone supplier asap to check.

Definitely phone your supplier and ask. Diesel in a boiler will create more carbon residue so will need more cleaning. Put a sticker on your oil tank saying 'Kerosene only'. Take a sample from the tank. Diesel smells more "oily" than Kerosene. Kerosene is ruby red in colour.

Kerosene sec 28 is the normal fuel for home heating. Don't use it until you are sure, I guess the supplier knows not to put diesel into a home heating oil tank - or maybe not !!

I suppose it begs the question - What did you order ?
