home destroyed by floods, insurance not availiable, "humanitarian" or other grants?

]Hi guys

My house was flooded 3 times in 2 years the last time it was completely destroyed and has been unfit to live in since.

I am currently renting a house and am a 64 year old widow.

I was wondering does anyone know anything about the grant made available by the government for flood victims.

My house was flooded by the local river due to lack of maintenance by the council but they have no interest in helping me and I don't have the money to there is a grant available called a humanitarian grant but don't know where to go.

Sorry to hear about the flooding.
I think The Irish Red Cross were running an assistance scheme but I believe the closing date for applications was sometime in February.

They can be contacted on 01 642 4600.

I also remember at the time receiving documentation from my Community Welfare Officer about a humanitarian scheme being run by the government.

It was only for people who had no insurance and would cover some costs.

If you contact your local Community Welfare Officer they should be able to give you information.

Thanks Tommy girl I had no insurance because I had been flooded before and the insurance company would not insure me as I was seen as high risk.Will contact the welfare officer in the morning.Thanks for your help.

Hi, can anyone help?

My house was completely destroyed by flooding caused by the local river which had not been cleaned and maintained.

Everything I had was destroyed as the water level was over 3 ft high in the house. I am currently in rented accommodation but feel miserable and want to return to my home where I have lived all my life.

Maybe there are other grants I could get.

I have merged your most recent post with your earlier thread which is the same question.

How did you get on with the red cross? and the CWO?

I know its sad but given the history (frequency and severity) of flooding perhaps your home can be considered uninhabitable? Have you approached the council with a few to getting temporary/permanent accommodation from them given your circumstances?

In most but not all cases the Council has no responsibility for maintenance of drainage of rivers.
