Henny - most southern European countries offer discounted/free accommodation/travel for children. I think Ireland falls into its own category of Far West Europe with little or no allowance for childrens rates.
If budget is the main criteria I would suggest researching and booking direct. If you booked the Menorca holiday through a travel agency here you should have a look at the hotels website and see how much they charge per room and then see how much the travel agency charged. You might also find that the hotel offers free accommodation for children under X years of age while the agency here gave you a 'generous' 20-30% discount off the full rate.
In terms of suggestions, I have nothing in particular in mind. Except perhaps going skiing (direct) which can be good value. We went to Mayrhofen last year and got a huge 3 bedroom apartment for €100 a day when pokey little hotel rooms cost as much. We went for a larger room than needed, so it may well have cost something like €85 per day. Bear in mind this was for a brand new, excellent quality apartment. Childrens train tickets were free (this is southern-ish Europe), their lift passes were free and their ski hire was free (in the right shops) with adult ski hire.
Bearing in mind the free overland travel for kids element you could easily have a good old adventure around much of Europe at a low cost even if you don't like skiing.
