Hello! Am hoping to take escorted tour to Canada from Dublin this summer- taking in Toronoto, Kingston and Montreal. Any suggestions for sights of particular interest to a 10 y.o. son, for the few days we'll have free to ourselves?

I hope you will take in the Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, the revolving restaurant at the Falls, a show in Toronto, a baseball game.

Some of those are probably covered on the tour! You could also head to Buffalo and New York?

Cathy,

Advice from a Canadian: Save the trip to the USA for another time as there's loads to do in the cities you mentioned. Do you know what time of year you're going as there are plenty of summer festivals going on which are worth making an effort to get it!

Thanks for replies to date.

Hope to book trip this week. Heading to Toronoto June 27th for 4 nights, then Kingston 2 nights and Montreal for 4 nights.

Will check out festivals for then.

Will be doing Niagara Falls, CNN tower and half day city trips in each location.

Go to a baseball game in Toronto, you're next to the CN tower and just the experience in the Sky Dome is worth the sport.

In Montreal check out the Olympic Stadium and the old city, there are lots of very nice cafe's and kids are well looked after.

Tip for CN Tower. The admission price is high. Instead, book a meal into the revolving restaurant and the price of admission goes towards your meal. You get a very nice meal and get to see TO as the restaurant revolves. You also can go to observation deck after and stand on glass floor!! Kids love this!! Need a nice day for this.
Harbourfront is a nice place to walk around (foot of Lake Ontario).
Science Centre in Scarborogh is great for kids.

Might be worth checking out the wonderland theme park -

We were in Toronto last summer and it was recommend. We'd no kids with us so didn't go in the end, but I'm sure a 10yr old would enjoy it.

Cathy,
There's also a theme park near Montreal, you could take the Metro to get to it called . One of my favorite and unique venue is the . I've loved it and so have my younger cousins who we have taken there as well. It's on the Montreal '76 Olympics Village site so you'd see the Olympic Stadium and everything. They also have package tickets so you could visit the Biodome and take a ride up to the to of the Olympic Tower, depending on the time you have.
Downtown Montreal is great with shopping and all that, Old Montreal is popular with the tourists as well as the Old Port, you could stop buy an pick up a 'Beaver Tail' which is a Pastry, not an actual tail.
Finally, you're in the city at the same time as The Montreal Internation Fireworks Competition, this is the only festival I can think of at this time of year. It's fantastic if you can catch any of the performances. A particularly good spot is the close the Jacques Cartier Bridge, a huge bridge linking the Island of Montreal to the South Shore, you can walk up the bridge and (safely!) watch the fireworks being set off, many of them going off almost at eye level as you're up so high. Don't worry the bridge is safe with 3meter fences on either side.
If your tour is taking you anywhere around the outskirts of Montreal
One note, Canada Day is July 1st and you could catch the festivities wherever you are as theres free events and concerts in all major cities.
As you can probably tell I'm a Montrealer, but will tell you, if you're going to Kingston and your tour doesn't include the Thousand Islands, be sure to get yourself on a boat tour of the Waterway, on a nice day you'll be thrilled with the scenery and you can keep yourself busy counting the Islands!
Let me know if you need any more information or you are thinking about going somewhere and want some advice!

Actually the Science Centre in Scarborough might be a little too far out.
A great place to visit is the Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. It is located close to Harbourfront, corner of Younge Street (longest street in the World) and Front Street. Great for Kids as they get a chance to shoot a puck etc. Has an irish connection also: Ice Hockey was invented in Kingston Ontario by a bunch of Irish guys playing with a ball on ice, with their hurley sticks!!

Kingston is quite a nice town (size is equivalent to a city to us). Right on the edge of Lake Ontario and at the end of the Rideau Canal. The 1000 Islands are within easy driving distance and are well worth a visit.

It is almost 10 years since I was there but there is not a whole pile in the actual town but there is a great waterfront and there is a fort on the hill (Fort Henry) overlooking the town; where it is well worth visiting the night shows. The US Marine Drill Team do shows there regularly (well they did in 1997) and this is quite worth going to

Thank you all!

All suggestions sound great- so much to do- just not enough time!!!!
