Both my hubby and myself are now unemployed.
I have been a Stay At Home Mom for the last few years and therefore haven't got the full tax-free allowance.
So now that we are both unemployed can we claim the full 2 single people tax free allowance? (We are not claiming dole etc and have some rental income to support us)
the term tax free allowance is out of date now. do you mean that ye have both been claiming teh regualr married tax credit with only your husband receiving PAYE credit?
I think you would now come into the self-employed bracket rather than the unemployed. Unemployed usually means people who are registered unemployed and receiving payment or credits.
As you are no longer employed or receiving SW you would not be entitled to PAYE or homemaker tax credits, just personal tax credits for both.

Yes, my husband was employed full-time on a PAYE basis.
I didn't have an income but was annoyed that I couldn't claim the full tax credit based on managing our rental properties. But maybe I didn't structure that properly. We have neverly really had an accountant.
(But have had a recent tax audit and were fully compliant)

Interesting thanks.
I think personal tax credits are better?
I wonder would we be better setting up a company?
To complicate matters further we moved abroad, lower cost base and generating more revenue from our PPR.
But I think we are still tax resident in Ireland. (based on reading www.revenue.ie)
