The county council fixed rate for house loans in 1980 was 12.5%. I think rates of 15% prevailed in the early 1990s. Also, In the 80s, you have to have 10% of house price on deposit with a building society for 6 months or a 1 year before they would CONSIDER giving you a mortgage.
